Miss Manjolo beauty contest on next week

The inaugural Miss Manjolo competition is slated for tomorrow at the school’s hall where a bevy of beauty is going to fight to win the coveted prize.

The pageant contest starts at 1900hrs on Friday  - ending at 2100hrs.

A total of 14 school girls are going to fight it out on the ramp. These include Polina Mudenda, Nancy Mwiinde, Jacqueline Muleya and Molina Mumpande among others.

Organisers of the competition, Mr Zvanaka Muleya, said the competition is the first to be hosted by the school.

“The motive of the beauty contest is to see school girls celebrate their beauty, said the entertainment Master Mr. Mumpande Zichobele. The competition will also be about the brains as contestants are going to be asked questions,” he added.

There are a lot of prizes to be won. The girl to be crowned Miss Manjolo will walk away with a $100 cheque and a school uniform while the bronze medallist will grab a satchel full of books and a uniform. The third winner will walk away with a school uniform.

Entertainment will be provided by the most hyped school drama led by Mr. Gwenure, a member of staff.
Entrance will be free of charge for all school pupils but the community members and staff will be expected to pay a charity fee of $1.

Manjolo Dance Group wins accolade

Manjolo High Dance Group won the first prize at the recently held Shangano Arts completion held at Kariangwe Primary School on the 16 of April this year. 

The competition was entered 20 secondary schools from Binga District with the goal of preserving African tradition and culture, particularly the Tonga culture. 

The competition was attended by Matebeleland North governor, Sithokozile Mathuthu. Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture and other government departments were present on the day. 

Speaking at the ceremony, organiser of the competition, Mr. Mike Mudimba said, “ This competition is a deliberate move by the Ministry to inculcate a spirit of culture in the pupils.”
The event is held on a termly basis to keep all schools active in upholding culture as an important component of the Ministry. 

Manjolo High Dance Group won $2000 for coming tops and a shield. The second winner went away with $500 while the third was given an appreciation of $100. 

The organiser appreciated the efforts of the local NGOs such as Basilwizi Trust in donating 800 for the prizes. 

“Basilwizi Trust is a non-profit making organisation that is promoting the Tonga and Korekore cultures through its participatory projects that are transparently being implemented in the district,” said Mudimba.
